Success Stories from WKAS

I had a lady come into my office that was new here and didn't have a dime to her name. She was looking for work and coming up with nothing.
She also needed help with her bills as well. So, as always I helped her as much as I could! I also gave her websites on jobs that were hiring at that time in Murray. So, I printed off the page and gave it to her. I think It was about six month later that she came in and said that she was so thankful that I helped her and that she got a job. She said that I didn't make her feel bad about getting help and that I made her smile. She hugged me and told me that we need more people like me in this world.  -Calloway County Success Story

Single mom Amy’s only source of income is the $325 child support payment that she receives monthly for her two children. She does receive Snap benefits to help pay for food, but nothing else. In January 2022 Amy contacted WKAS in order to try to get propane for her home when her propane supply was below 5%. Because of the Winter LiHeap Crisis program she was able to get the propane to be able to help keep her family safe and warm. -- Marshall County

I recently had a client with the LIHEAP Winter Crisis program. She had never been here before she didn't even know places like this existed. Paducah Power told her to come talk to Andrea at the McCracken office- her power was cut off, she is unable to work because she takes care of her mother that is on oxygen and needs a caregiver- she did not know how to get a social security award letter all she had was the ID and Social security cards. We helped her get her social security paper and everything else she needed and we was able to get her power back on- she thought she had to pay it back she asked me if she could pay it back in installments and when I told her she did not have to pay it back she cried- She never had anyone do something like that for her she said---McCracken County

We had a single mother come in for help with her utilities and she has been off work since Jan due to her kids and her kept COVID.  She had he gas turned off due to nonpayment.  She contacted our Agency to see if we could help her get it turned back on because she had a high electric bill from using electric heaters to try to heat the house.  She was so happy we were able to get it turned back on using our Share the Warmth funds we get from Atmos Gas.-- Graves County
